Images contain a vast range of information, which can help you determine their compression levels, the used camera and much more. If a picture is worth a thousand words, JPEGsnoop will help you see those words. After examining and decoding an image or a video file, the application will reveal all its inner details.

JPEGsnoop is freeware and it can be downloaded swiftly, with any type of Internet connection. Furthermore, you don't have to go through an installation process, before running the application. You only need to extract its executable from a 544 KB archive.

You can load a picture or a video file with a standard Open dialog or you can drag and drop the file on the interface. Once the file is loaded, JPEGsnoop will display all its contained information almost instantly. You will find all the information you need, from EXIF details to the file's signature.

The application has many uses, including digital image forensics. For example, JPEGsnoop lets you know if the loaded picture has been edited and it provides details about the used image processor. If someone sends you a picture, to prove something, you can easily verify its authenticity.

Alternatively, you may use the application to determine the used quality settings, when a picture was saved in Photoshop, extract embedded images from PDF documents and more. It is also possible to add compression signatures to a database. You may specify the quality settings of a camera's software or if a picture has been processed with a certain program.

Although you can load a single image at a time, on JPEGsnoop interface, it is possible to acquire the same type of information for multiple files in a single run. The application provides a batch processing feature, which does not involve anything else than selecting an images or videos folder. In a few seconds, the software will save the information, for each picture, in separate TXT files, which can be found in the same folder.

Pros

JPEGsnoop provides a huge amount of details, for individual pictures or videos. You only need to load a file and the application will reveal the information right away. JPEGsnoop has many uses and the best part is that it's free and it doesn't need to be installed.

Cons

With so much information placed at your disposal, you may spend some time scrolling through the text. Everything there is to know about a picture or a video file can be found in JPEGsnoop's detailed reports.
